Why it matters
A condo floor has rules a house does not
Most condo boards require a minimum acoustic rating and a specific underlay so your floor does not carry noise to the unit below. There are approvals, insurance and often set hours for using the elevator and moving materials. We install to the soundproofing spec your board requires, keep the building side tidy, and help you get a floor you love without a letter from the board afterward. Ontario’s Building Code regulates airborne sound only – it sets STC 50 (or ASTC 47 including flanking paths) between units and contains no impact-noise (IIC) requirement anywhere – yet your condo board almost certainly demands one.

Yes. We install to your board's required acoustic rating and underlay spec, which is what keeps noise from reaching the unit below.
What flooring is best for a condo?

Ottawa specifics
The three things nobody tells condo owners about sound
Here is the full picture. The code has no IIC rule, but the Canadian Condominium Institute recommends IIC 55+ underlayment beneath hard flooring, and ACMO reports boards often require IIC 70+. The catch, from the National Floor Covering Association of Canada: those IIC numbers are meaningless without a test standard, because a rating only applies to a complete floor-ceiling assembly, not to the underlay roll on its own (the relevant standards are ASTM E492 for impact and E90 for airborne). So we install to your board’s stated requirement using assemblies and underlays that actually meet it – not just a number printed on packaging – and we keep the paperwork your board asks for.
